That feeling of being in love, it’s wonderful, isn’t it? Knowing that someone is always going to be there by your side, supporting you with every decision you make. Picking you up when you fall down and kissing away every bruise. Someone who sees the best in you when you’re at your worst. Unconditional love, all the time. That’s what everyone deserves, right? Happiness. Well how come it’s only limited to heterosexual couples? If two girls or two boys love each other just as much as a male and a female, they should have the same right to spend the rest of their lives together just as heterosexual couples do.
Every day, 5760 children become an orphan in the United States. With no one to turn to, no one to give them the love and nourishment they were born to have, no one they can call their parents. Most people take that for granted and now there are thousands of couples who don’t have the chance of having their own children, looking to adopt these children in need. Most people believe that homosexual households are no place to raise a child because they need a mother and a father figure in their life but the divorce rate is higher than ever before. More and more children are coming from broken homes. If they can go through the divorce of their parents, they can go through a life of two mother or two dads who love one another tremendously. 60% of females coming from orphanages become prostitutes and 70% of males become hardened criminals. Those children have a life to live, not one to eventually serve in jail. Homosexual couples are here to adopt those helpless children and give them the home, love, and nurture that everyone deserves.
The United States is advertised so that everyone in this country is to be treated equally yet homosexuals everywhere are receiving more hatred than equality anywhere they go. Anyone who practices their beliefs/religion looks down upon them as if they don’t belong. They’re not much different than anyone else you’d meet. Homosexuals do the same kind of work, pay the same taxes, and serve the same army. Most even practice the same religions as heterosexuals. They may not believe in exactly the same things but they are still well-rounded people that this country should be prosperous of. Some religions refuse homosexuality but that shouldn’t be a problem because of the separation between church and state. Yet that hatred is still lingering in some people’s minds and they just can’t let it go.
The close-minded people on the opposing side of this debate argue that gays and lesbians aren’t born this way; they were taught or brought up this way. This doesn’t make any logical sense considering most homosexuals come from homes with both a mother and a father, a heterosexual couple. You can’t force someone to like a certain thing. They were born with certain characteristics, just like everyone else. Some people are born with the allergy of peanuts, some people are born with freckles, and some people are born with the attraction of the same sex. You can’t help what you like, you just do. It’s like asking someone why they like their favorite food; they can’t give you an elaborate answer because there is no elaborate answer. Commonly, you’ll get the answer “I don’t know, I just like it”, to put it simply.
All in all, everyone dreams about getting married when they’re younger. Well, most girls do anyways. They want the abundant amount of flowers and the beautiful white dress; they want to see their family crying from happiness and their love of their life at the other end of the aisle awaiting their arrival. They want to take their partner’s hand and say those fateful words “I do”. No matter the sex, everyone should have that right. Why take that away from someone just because they don’t believe in the same thing someone else believes in?
